I’m a sucker for snacks. There’s a lot of people out there that’ll tell you that snacking isn’t good for your body and you should only eat three meals a day. If you’ve ever been told that and you’re a fan of snacking, I say stick their little words in an envelope and send it away. You eat those snacks, and you do it with a smile on your face.
I will admit, I’m a healthy snacker. If you didn’t know before, I’ll tell you that I’ve had many-a issues with my digestive system, so I’ve had to rearrange my eating habits. I gravitate towards wholesome and nutritious eating, but don’t get me wrong…I treat myself lol. But, because of my health, I tend to keep things pretty healthy and go for healthier snacking.
I also love funky snacks. Most grocery stores today have gotten so stinking creative with their snacks, and I’m all for it. This is something that some might say is a waste of money; I say it’s an adventure. It makes me legitimately excited. I always want to try out new things.
And I have been, y’all. I splurge on snacks. It’s like my weakness. If it entices me, I want to try it. AND I want you to try them, too. So, I’m going to share some of my favorite snacks that I’ve found out there. Try em if you get the chance, and let me know what you think of it!! And please, oh please, share some of your favorite snacks too, because I’m always on the hunt.
Siete Tortilla Chips
Okay, I’m a huge fan of tortilla chips. They are everything to me. Catch me late night munching on tortilla chips; No shame. I’ve tried a whole lot of different varieties in my years, and these are definitely one of my favorites.
These chips are made grain free, so nothing like your normal tortilla chip. They are based from cassava, which is a root vegetable. You can definitely tell that the taste is different (not bad), but the texture replicas a tortilla chip. I prefer the Sea Salt flavor, but you can also find them in many more, including Nacho and Chipotle Barbecue. You can find Siete products at most larger grocery stores near any gluten free or chip section (I’ve found them at H-E-B, Whole Foods, and Wheatsville). Alrighty, go get em.
Laiki Rice Crackers
Okay, I’m a huge fan of crackers. I know I said that about tortilla chips, but it applies to crackers as well. I’m usually a Wheat Thin or Triscuit lover, but I felt like going on a limb to see what these bad boys taste like. These crackers have almost a buttery/oily affect to them, which makes them so addictive. They crunch just like Triscuit crackers, so I loved them even more. Try em with cheese or try em plain; they’re good either way. And healthy, heyy. I found these at my local H-E-B store. Get goin’.
Farmhouse Culture Kraut Crisps
Hold up, wait a minute. Do. Not. Judge. Me. For. This. I kid you not, these were some of the best things I’ve ever eaten before. They look super intimidating, and I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t say “ew” when I first saw them. My boyfriend found them intriguing enough to buy, and I kid you not, we sat in my car and ate the entire bag in about 5 minutes. They were UGHmazing. They have a bit of a vinegar-based flavor, like sauerkraut, which is so addicting. They have the same texture as a tortilla chip, too. Oh you guys, they sound so freaky, but you should AT LEAST try them. And you can thank me later. We got these fellas at Wheatsville.
Once Again Sunflower Seed Butter
Hands up if you’ve got a peanut allergy! Where’s my party people at? Little bit louder for the people in the back, y'all.
I developed my allergy in ’17, and it was about the hardest adjustment I’ve ever had to go through. That’s an exaggeration, but I feel the need to emphasize. I was devastated with my peanut allergy until other nut butters started becoming popular and accessible. I first began using almond butter, and then found sunflower seed butter.
This is such an easy replacement for your standard peanut butter. I like to slather it on a banana or put a spoonful in my smoothies or use them to make my energy balls. I’ve become obsessed with this snack, and am so happy that those creative minds out there decided to pulse sunflower seeds and make it spreadable. I found this specific brand at Wheatsville, but, have found other brands at Wal Mart, H-E-B, and Trader Joes (it's the cheapest a TJ's btw). Don’t be surprised if you walk into any other grocery store and see them there, too. I’d say give it a try, and be aware that you might fall in love, peanut allergy or not.
Epic Performance Bar-Lemon Flavor
I love bars, and am always on a hunt for new brands. You can find me at any grocery store in the granola bar aisle, staring up and down the shelves for hours upon hours. They’re such an easy snack for my afternoons, and I figured that if I like them so much, I might as well get em good. I bought these because they were on sale at Wal Mart (lol) and I ended up really liking them! I’ll be honest, they taste like most other bars that I’ve bought, such as LaraBar, Thunderbird, and RXBar. The reason I gravitate towards these brands is because they have few and simple ingredients, and I appreciate that. This one has 5 ingredients and is a great source of protein. It doesn’t taste fake or processed, but very natural. Watch out for the bars, though, because they can get pretty expensive. Make sure to give your best judgement on which ones you can afford. I dare you to go look down the granola bar aisle at your grocery store and see what you can find.
Sunrise Plantain Chips
I used to not like plantains because I thought they were freaky. I was deceived by the non-sweet banana that I was eating. I remember eating them one time at my sister’s house in college, and I was annoyed by them. Everyone knows that your taste buds tend to change as you grow older, right? Cue 22-year-old Kat. Oh my gosh, I crave these all the time, now. If you’re a potato chip lover, these are a great healthy replacement for them. Let me be clear, nothing can beat potato chips, though, and you should keep eating your heart’s content of them. But, if we’re trying to be healthier, plantain chips.
So, if you have an understanding of dried bananas, they have that same texture but don’t have the sweetness. They’re a great snack for all you gluten-frees out there. I enjoy my chips with a side of salsa, baby. I found this specific brand at H-E-B, but if you go to any grocery store that has a bulk station, they will more than likely be provided.
Kashi Cinnamon Harvest
A big ole bowl of cereal is always a good idea. This is my late-night snack of choice, and specifically these babies. So, we all know Frosted Mini Wheats, right? Well, these are the adult version. I love their crunchiness, and I love the integrity of their ingredients. They’re simply just an amazing snack, and there’s not much more to say about it. I like to use walnut milk to replace normal 2% milk, and they’re a great pair. Kashi products are pretty easy to get ahold of, so they shouldn’t be hard to find. I’ve bought these at H-E-B and Wal Mart, but they are available at most other grocery stores. So, to all my cereal lovers, jump on this train.
Alright folks, there you have it. I definitely plan on sharing more as I continue to gravitate out and try new stuff. Like I said before, send me any of your favorite snacks, and if you try any of these, let me know how you like them. I want to comment, though, on the importance of fueling your body with things that aid you, overall. My motto is to never restrict yourself from your intake, just because of the "weight you might gain" if you eat them, but to do your eating intuitively and know that it is meant to keep you going. I will still say it though, if Doritos are your snack of choice, and you dabble on them every now and then, you go girl. Maybe, we can share a bag of them one day. It’s a date.
